After 18 months in Nigerian waters, Castor Vali’s client has recently demobilised their semi-submersible drill rig and set sail for her next campaign. Over the past 21 months, Castor Vali has provided pivotal support during the Nigeria project, playing an essential role in campaign planning and execution.
Project Planning and Risk Assessment
Our collaboration began in the planning phases, where Castor Vali produced detailed project and route risk assessments for both the mobilisation and operational phases. This involved consulting with our client on the necessary preparations for the crew and rig to ensure readiness to operate.
Crew and Rig Preparations
To prepare for the campaign, we deployed one of our Offshore Security Managers to conduct a detailed rig hardening vulnerability assessment to understand her current physical condition. Based on the findings, Castor Vali assisted with crew training and drills, advised on journey management onshore, and provided hotel assessments for frequent crew changes. Additionally, we conducted accommodation and building safety checks for the onshore team. Castor Vali led the drafting of the field security plan, ensuring it was bridged with the end client’s field security plan
Mobilisation and Operational Support
As mobilisation commenced, Castor Vali was integral in supporting the rig’s arrival by providing Maritime Security Officers (MSOs) to manage security onboard all project vessels. Our Security Escort Vessel met the rig at the limit of the Nigerian EEZ to ensure her safe arrival into the field of operations, providing security overwatch during her mooring. Our MSOs remained onboard throughout the campaign, providing essential security overwatch to the rig, supporting the OIM, and coordinating the movements and management of the field security assets.
Demobilisation and Departure from Nigerian Waters
When the time came for our client to exit Nigeria, Castor Vali once again provided support to facilitate a safe demobilisation. Our comprehensive approach ensured a smooth and secure departure, marking the project’s successful conclusion.
Challenges and Achievements
The campaign had its challenges, but these were navigated successfully, maintaining the crew’s and rig’s security throughout the operation. This project is a testament to Castor Vali’s comprehensive service offerings utilising the vast majority of Castor Vali’s offshore service lines, including risk assessment, rig hardening, maritime security officers onboard, intelligence, onshore security, secure journey management, and security escort vessels.
Conclusion: The Importance of Comprehensive Security Services
In summary, Castor Vali’s involvement in the Nigeria drill rig project highlights the importance of comprehensive security services in offshore operations. Our ability to provide detailed planning, rigorous assessments, and continuous support ensured the success and safety of the campaign.
