Over the reporting period, a total of ten incidents were recorded globally.

  • West Africa VRA/HRA: Four incidents have been reported this week.
  • Indian Ocean VRA/HRA: Three incidents have been reported this week.
  • Southeast Asia Region: One incident has been reported this week. As we received it after sending last week’s weekly report, one incident that occurred last week has been included in this weekly report.
  • Americas Region: Two incidents have been reported this week. As we received it after sending last week’s weekly report, one incident that occurred last week has been included in this weekly report.

CV WEEKLY PIRACY AND MARITIME SECURITY ASSESSMENT

Over the reporting period, a total of one incident was recorded globally.

Summary: The incident this week saw a robbery occur on an anchored tanker at Rizhao Shelter Anchorage, China.

Over the reporting period, a total of three incidents were recorded globally.

One incidents in West Africa VRA/HRA and two incidents in Indian Ocean VRA/HRA.

Over the reporting period, Six incidents were reported globally.

Over the reporting period, a total of two incidents have been recorded globally.

Summary:

The incidents this week saw two robberies occur. One armed robbery took place on an anchored fishing vessel approximately 10nm southeast of Freetown, Sierra Leone. The other robbery occurred on an anchored vessel at Banana, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Over the reporting period one incident was recorded globally in West Africa VRA/HRA.

  • The incident this week saw a pirate attack take place on a passenger boat that was transiting between Kula and Port Harcourt, Rivers State Waterways, Nigeria.
  • Six of the incidents this year have involved passenger boats. All of those incidents occurred whilst they were underway.
  • The nine members of crew who were kidnapped on a FPSO approximately 33nm south southwest of Bonny, Nigeria on 2nd July have now been released.

Summary:

The month of May has seen fifteen incidents in the region. An increase of 87.5% on the month of April. Only in March was there a higher number of incidents.
